City Mod Beta 3.zip

Vincent "MEGA" Crane

This modification was developed for use with Buc's outstanding "Spring Rain" WWII Fighters terrain. This supplement replaces the city textures with a much more detailed version. It must be installed after the 'Spring Rain" terrain and overwrites portions of those files.

It is released as a near complete Beta version as there may be a stray texture that I missed. These will be upgraded as they are identified.

While this mod will function with other terrains, there will be a very undesirable color mismatch.

Installation
------------
Before installing this custom modification, you are advised to make a backup of your original terrain.sqs archive. Also it would be advisable to maintain an unaltered copy of Buc's Spring Rain version of terrain.sqs

This distribution is comprised of high resolution (512x512) textures. If this mod is installed on a system with an inadequate video card, a crash to desktop will likely occur during the game.

Instructions

Before you begin, install Buc's Spring Rain terrain. It is distributed separately from this mod.

Extract the contents of this archive to the WWII Fighters\Data directory. Assuming the
default installation, this is: C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\WWII Fighters\Data

The files will be extracted to a new directory WWII Fighters\Data\Spring Rain City Mod Beta 3.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the WWII Fighters\Data\Spring Rain City Mod Beta 3

To install the city mod, double-click on the install_CityMod... icon. This will open up a DOS session and the installation will proceed in this window. When the installation is complete, a message saying "DONE...INSTALLATION OF CITY MOD COMPLETE CLOSE DOS SESSION" will be displayed in the window. Close the DOS session by clicking on the X close button in the top right corner of the window.

Installation is now complete.

Designer's Notes

This is likely the first terrain mod to use 512 textures. The high resolution was used to allow the rendering of individual buildings on the terrain surface.

One strange thing occurred during the creation of this mod. I could not import the texture "FRSTRVRCITY" into the terrain.sqs archive no matter what I tried. In the end, this was solved by renaming the texture to "MTRANS1" and amending the only two tiles in the game that appear to use this texture.

This mod is designed to function with Buc's Spring Rain terrain. Hats off to Buc for that mod, which is arguably the finest terrain ever created for WW2 Fighters!

Enjoy!
